Stop putting off estate planning

We get it: Estate planning is not anyone's idea of a conversational party topic. We also know that it is an essential thing for everyone to consider. A few weeks ago, we talked about how it's never too early to look at your estate plan. Today, we want to remind you that it's also never too late.

If you've been putting off estate planning, this is the week that you can begin the journey to better peace of mind. One reason many of our clients put off estate planning is that they simply think they don't need a will. They might not have children or a spouse and believe it doesn't matter what happens after they pass away. In reality, you probably do care about some of your assets and what happens to them. At the very least, you can leave special mementos to friends or gifts to charity. Otherwise, the courts must follow the law and many of your assets could end up with the state.

Another reason we hear that people avoid estate planning is that it's just depressing to consider. No one wants to spend that much time and detail thinking about the end of their life. But we offer this counter: Do you really want to live an end-of-life that didn't involve at least some planning? Estate planning just isn't about your heirs – you can also make your own life easier via trusts, durable power of attorney forms and health care directives.

Our firm works with you at all times during life to understand your estate goals. We help you choose the right documents and put the law to work protecting your assets and legacy.
